GSM: Grams square meters
DID YOU KNOW THAT GSM IS THE ACRONYM OF GRAMS SQUARE METER?
GSM is the acronym of Grams Square Meter. It is a measure based on grams per square meter that indicates the "weight" of the fabric per 1 square meter. It is an important indicator because the cost of the Big Bag is determined, for more than 50%, by the cost of raw materials, especially the fabric. Generally speaking, the heavier is the fabric, the more long-lasting it is, and consequently also the Big Bag, but it will also increase its cost. A Big Bag normally has a GSM that goes from 120 to 200 grams per square meter.
To calculate the GSM of a Big Bag, with good approximation, it is sufficient to cut from the body of a Big Bag, not yet used, a square of 10 cm by 10 cm. Weigh with a balance of precision the sample and multiply by 100: you have obtained the GSM of your bag.
The GSM is not the only value to take into account to evaluate the quality and strength of a Big Bag, you have to consider also the type of construction and seam.
